There are many variations of crosses. This is the most well known being the symbol of the crucifixion. It is therefore very much associated with Christianity. There are two main forms of this cross. One with equal arms being the Greek version and this one with unequal arms being the Latin version. Strangely, whilst the symbol can be found in the 2nd Century it is not until the 4th Century that it became widely used as a Symbol of Christianity. later during the 11th and 12th Centuries many more variants were developed during the emerging system of heraldry.
